1. Castle complex

If you haven’t been to the castle, you haven’t been to Nitra. One of the oldest castles in Slovakia was originally built as a defensive fortress during the Great Moravia period. Today, it houses the Diocesan Museum with unique historical artifacts, including the oldest manuscript in Slovakia.

 

2. Pedestrian zone with Svätopluk square

One of the highlights of this zone is the unique musical clock, which plays melodies inspired by regional traditions every day. Svätopluk Square offers many cafes and restaurants, as well as the Andrej Bagar Theater and a beautiful fountain.

 

3. Nitra Synagogue

The Nitra Synagogue, built in the Moorish-Byzantine style in 1911, is an architectural gem and a historic site of the Jewish community. Today, it serves as a center for cultural events, including concerts and exhibitions. It is often sought after by photographers.

 

4. City park

Sihoť Park is a popular place for relaxation and represents an oasis of peaceful natural surroundings in the city. It has been revitalized in recent years, and you can relax here by the lake and the historic Frog Fountain. The newly renovated children’s playground is also a draw.

 

5. Nitra Calvary

The Calvary offers one of the most beautiful views of Nitra and its surroundings. It also includes the older Chapel of the Holy Cross, which was modified as the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. The Calvary itself consists of twelve Neo-Romanesque chapels that lead you to the top of the hill, where a three-figure sculpture depicting the crucifixion of Christ stands.

 

6. Zobor and Pyramída hills

Zobor Hill is a popular hiking destination thanks to its educational trails and beautiful views of the city. Nearby is Pyramída Hill with a television transmitter, which is a city landmark. The Svorad Cave, associated with the legend of a hermit, is also particularly captivating.

 

7. Dražovce church

The Romanesque Church of St. Michael the Archangel from the 11th century is located on a rocky hill in Dražovce. It offers a stunning view and is a favorite spot for photographers, tourists, and filmmakers. You might have seen it in the film “Láska na vlásku” as well as in music videos by the bands Tublatanka and Gladiátor.
